First Time Ocean Fishing in Ucluelet?

If you’ve never fished the ocean before, you’re not alone. Many guests who come out with Catch My Drift are trying offshore fishing for the first time. You don’t need any previous experience. Everything needed for the trip is provided, and we walk you through the process as we go.

What You’ll Learn

A day on the water is a chance to experience West Coast fishing firsthand.

You’ll see how salmon and bottom fish are targeted offshore, how the gear works, and how different areas of water are approached depending on conditions and the time of year.

For many guests it’s not just about catching fish, it’s about understanding how the fishery works and experiencing a day on the Pacific.

What’s Included

All rods, reels, and tackle are provided. The boat is equipped with safety gear, life jackets, and everything needed for the day.

The boat itself is a 30’ aluminum offshore vessel with an enclosed heated cabin, seating area, and private washroom so the day stays comfortable even if the weather changes.

Do I Need to Bring Anything?

Most guests bring:

• weather-appropriate clothing
• sunglasses & sunscreen
• food and drinks for the day

Everything else needed for fishing is already on board. You’re also welcome to put on your favourite playlist via our bluetooth speaker.

What Happens to the Fish?

At the end of the trip your catch is cleaned at the dock and ready to take with you. If you’re traveling, there are local processors in town who can cut, vacuum seal, and freeze your fish for transport.

The Most Important Thing

A day on the water is about more than just the fish. It’s about being offshore, seeing the coastline from a different perspective, and experiencing a part of the West Coast that most visitors never get to see.
